Committee Introduction

UNICEF, the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund, is a global humanitarian organization, aiming to ensure the well-being and rights of every child worldwide. Established in 1946, UNICEF originally concentrated on providing emergency aid to children in war-torn regions. However its mandate has gradually expanded to reach long-term development for children in various fields such as education, healthcare, nutrition, water, sanitation, and protection from violence and exploitation.

UNICEF now operates in over 190 countries and territories, working with a nonstop effort to reach the most vulnerable and marginalized children, regardless of their race, religion, or political affiliation. Through partnerships with governments, non-governmental organizations, communities, and other UN agencies, UNICEF always strives to promote policies and practices that prioritize children's rights and ensure their voices are heard.

UNICEF's interventions have saved countless lives and improved the futures of millions of children around the world. Despite significant progress, challenges persist, including conflict, poverty, inequality, and the ongoing impacts of emergencies such as natural disasters and pandemics, UNICEF remains steadfast in its commitment to achieving a world where all children can thrive and reach their full potential, guided by the principles of the Convention on the Rights of the Child. With its unparalleled expertise, reach, and advocacy efforts, UNICEF continues to be a driving force in the global movement to build a better future for every child.
